Outlines of Doctrinal Theology was first published in 1898 for students at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis. It sets out the body of Lutheran doctrine in concise, ordered propositions, each grounded in Scripture. It was written as a classroom compendium: brief in statement, exact in definition, and arranged for learning. This edition reproduces the text complete and unabridged, with its Scripture proofs set in the King James Version.

The Rev. Dr. Augustus Lawrence Graebner (1849–1904) was professor of theology at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, and a historian of American Lutheranism.
