Ad Crucem Icon - Jesus the Pantocrator
The image on this icon dates from the 6th century, and comes from the Byzantine monastery of St Catherine's at Sinai. It is printed directly onto a wood background with a traditional red frame. Generations of Christians have kept replicas of this icon in their homes or churches as a reminder that Jesus is the ruler of the universe (pantocrator means ruler of everything). The icon's seeming asymmetry represents Jesus' dual nature as human and divine.
