Judy Greenlees Keys and Confession
Dr. Martin Luther’s Small Catechism
Office of the Keys and Confession
Fine art prints of The Small Catechism Series of 7 contemporary Celtic artworks in mixed media.
Judy Greenlees, c. 2005 A.D.
This series was inspired by The Book of Kells and the Lindisfarne Gospels. The Celtic knotwork was drafted completely by hand, and begun on the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, England, on St. Patrick’s Day. Subsequent work was completed entirely by hand, using traditional art media, in Ealing, London, U.K, and California, U.S.A.
Though these are contemporary manuscripts, they contain elements of design common to both historic manuscripts which inspired them. The calligraphy includes forms of ancient uncial lettering, there are groupings of threes throughout honoring the Holy Trinity, individual letters are embellished with additions of colors and red pointwork, the eternity of the Holy Trinity is represented with the infinity of overlapping lines in the Celtic knotwork, and much more. The use of gold leaf and metallic inks references classic eastern Orthodox icons.
The Small Catechism Series is located at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Hacienda Heights, California.
The Series contains The Apostles' Creed, The Lord's Prayer, Morning and Evening Prayers, Office of the Keys, Sacrament of Holy Baptism, Sacrament of the Altar, The Ten Commandments.
